Words to live by...

"Life and love go on. Let the music play." ~ Johnny Cash

This weekend, I had a pleasant and relaxing visit with some family friends in Nimes. The Feria de Nimes was going on. There were bullfights and streets blocked off for running smaller bulls (if you can catch the tail, you get good luck!). I was too scared to do it, but it was fun to watch. I don't generally get on animal rights soapboxes, and I won't now, but I'm kind of glad I didn't get to see any of the actual fights. I don't know that I would have been able to enjoy seeing the bull manipulated like that and then killed. Kind of like I had to close my eyes during the slaughtering scenes of Fast Food Nation.

While in Nimes, I finished an autobiography on Johnny Cash. "The Man Called Cash" was not the most well-written book I'd ever read and contained many copy editing mistakes, but reading about the Man in Black was awesome. This book focused on his spiritual journey in particular. I think it's so cool how Cash was outspoken about both his faith and his struggles. Perhaps that's what endeared him to so many.

The quote above was given in an interview many years back. It jumped off the page at me. What an approach to life...let things fall as they may, understanding we're not here forever, but the music (what we leave behind) plays on even after we're gone. Words to live by, indeed.

Peace. Out.
